Venice from above: terraces, rooftops and bell towers over the lagoon

Venice has no skyscrapers: you see it from above from its bell towers and its few true terraces, and from the water by vaporetto. Here are the rooftops of the Giudecca and Santa Croce, the terraces on the Grand Canal and, further out, the tables of Mazzorbo and Torcello, where the lagoon goes quiet again.

01

The bell towers

San Marco, San Giorgio Maggiore and the Bovolo staircase: Venice all round.

02

Terraces on the water

From the Grand Canal to the Giudecca, at water level or above the roofs.

03

The islands

Mazzorbo and Torcello: the northern lagoon, away from the crowd.
